2021 China’s (Shanghai) International Symposium on Tunnelling Hosted by Our College Successfully Concluded

In order to actively respond to the national "14th Five-Year Plan" strategic requirements for coordinating and promoting infrastructure construction, accelerating the construction of a strong transportation country, and building a complete, efficient, practical, intelligent, green, safe and reliable modern infrastructure system, On April 18-19th, 2021, the “2021 China’s (Shanghai) International Symposium on Tunnelling” was successfully held in Shanghai. With the theme of "Challenges and Innovations of Tunnel Engineering in Complex Urban Environments", this conference gathered experts from top scientific research institutions, governments, enterprises and universities in the tunnel engineering industry at home and abroad to promote the entire tunnel engineering industry through summit forums, dialogues and exchanges. It aims to enhance the efficient coordination of the chain, to discuss new opportunities and challenges for the development of smart cities. The conference was jointly organized by 4 sponsors, including the Municipal Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, the Tunnel and Underground Works Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, and 6 sponsors including the Underground Polis Academy of Shenzhen University and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. Academician Sun Jun and Academician Qian Qihu served as honorary chairmen of the conference. Academician Chen Xiangsheng, Dean of our College, Zhou Wenbo, President of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd., and Yan Jinxiu, Chairman of International Tunnelling Association, served as chairmen of the conference.


This conference has set up a keynote forum and six theme forums, among which the "Rail Transit and Underground Space Development and Construction Technology Forum" was hosted by our College. Nearly 500 industry experts, scholars, government officials and corporate group leaders from China, Japan, Italy, Austria, Brazil and other domestic and foreign industries gathered here to focus on "Super large diameter shield tunnel, subway design, construction and operation, refined tunnel construction, operation and management of the full life cycle of the tunnel, diversification of construction technology, innovation of tunneling equipment" and other core contents, delivered keynote speeches, shared cutting-edge academic achievements and discussed the cross-innovation of industrial integration, so as to cope with common problems and technological innovations in tunnel construction and management, by gathering "Chinese solutions" and "world wisdom".


The successful holding of this conference has further deepened the communication and exchanges between domestic and foreign counterparts, and strengthened the mutual understanding and cooperation between Chinese and foreign governments, enterprises, professional institutions, and university experts. On a broader and deeper level, it is contribute to the construction of a more livable, smart and efficient city.


Academician Chen Xiangsheng, the dean of our institute, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference and gave a wonderful report on "Risk and Pre-control of Ground Freezing Technology". Associate Professor Hong Chengyu from Underground Polis Academy of Shenzhen University gave a report on "Analysis of the Impact of Transportation Hub Reconstruction and Expansion on the Structure of Operating Metro Stations". Wang Lei, Feng Weipeng and other 4 PhD and master students gave reports on the development of rail transit technology. In addition, Professor Bao Xiaohua deputy deans of the Underground Polis Academy of Shenzhen University and Associate Professor Hong Chengyu, participated in the presiding of the " Rail Transit and Underground Space Development and Construction Technology Forum". A total of 15 teachers and students from the Underground Polis Academy of Shenzhen University participated in the meeting.
